New Children’s Book: Dalia’s Ortho-K Lenses

I’m so excited to share my new children’s book, Dalia’s Ortho-K Lenses: An Orthokeratology Adventure, which I co-wrote with my daughter and co-author, Dalia Kelly-Huang.

The story

Dalia is eight, and faraway words have started to look fuzzy, like clouds. When she starts to need glasses, her mom (that’s me!) designs special ortho-k lenses just for her. Dalia wears them while she sleeps and takes them out in the morning to see clearly all day.

What kids learn

Young readers follow Dalia step by step:

  • Washing and drying hands and setting up a clean space
  • Checking each lens and putting it in gently
  • Taking lenses out safely in the morning
  • The golden rules: water and lenses never mix, never force a lens, and if something feels wrong, stop and tell a grown-up

Why we wrote it

Starting ortho-k can feel like a big step for kids and parents. We wanted a calm, friendly way for families to talk through each step together. The book includes illustrations, simple diagrams of how night lenses work, and bedtime and morning checklists to help build good habits.

It’s perfect for kids who are starting ortho-k, kids who are curious about their eyes, and parents who want to know what ortho-k looks like day to day.
